ViVii, the Swedsih dream-pop outfit, are defying (and denying) the challenging (or simply boring) realities of life. Even in the good old days of 2018, on only their second single ViVii had one thing in mind: dreaming up a better world through song. Clearly the Swedish trio were on to something special. Savant has been streamed 5.5 million times on Spotify alone. The self-titled album that followed has 20 million streams. ViVii’s sublime dreampop took them round the world on tour, from their production base in Uppsala, an hour north of Stockholm, all the way to the California of “Think of 1969 and you think of The Beach Boys era,” says Emil, the smiling enthusiasm all over his face as he recalls the pilgrimage the trio took to the beaches and neighbourhoods that birthed Brian Wilson’s teenage symphonies to God. That passion is there, too, in ViVii on their sound, “We just grew up on that time and sound. All that jingle-jangle music, we all love it so much!” Emil adds with a laugh. “So it’s an homage to that time. It’s a romantic tribute to a place and a time and a sound that means so much to us.”

The dreamy folk-pop of Julia Logan exudes a voice at once both comforting and piercing. Channeling the likes of Carole King, Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, and Sharon van Etten her voice talks her way through the inner life of her own life and the lives of others in the small community that she grew up in.
Accompanied by observant lyrics, bronzed and mellow melodies excellently produced and co-written by Daniel Bengtson (First Aid Kit) soar to hit home the deeper point in songs that honor and long for human connection and respect. It might be their quiet revolt against a world increasingly obsessed with transactional relationships, blow-hard aspirations, and digital ’likes’ rather than a simple ’hello’ on the street.
Julia Logan’s debut album, Everly Foreverly, features a duet with Nina Persson (The Cardigans) as well as drummers Kyle Crane (Kurt Vile, Madison Cunningham) and Karl “Hovis” Hovmark (Tove Lo) on separate tracks. Guitarist Peter Morén (Peter Bjorn and John) supports on many of the songs. Her follow-up album ’Faraway Nearby,’ produced and co-written by Daniel Bengtson, explores themes of personal fears and changes, isolation, loss, getting older, hope, and finding your place in the world. Released singles ’Mirrors,’ ’Moodswings,’ and ’Top of the World’ have already garnered attention in Stereogum and La Blogothèque, and on the renown LA and Seattle radio stations KCRW and KEXP. Faraway Nearby is now out for the world to enjoy.

Born in Cologne to a Korean mother and German father, both of whom are opera singers, Josin grew up in a household with music at its centre. It was while at medical school in Nice that the desire to make her own music became unavoidable. “I decided to follow the artistic path,” Josin explains. “I did my first year of medical school and this was what I wanted to do since I was a kid. Somehow I never really saw what was right in front of me the whole time - music. Maybe because my parents are musicians and it was so normal to be in an artistic surrounding. I quickly realized both music and medicine needed a 200% commitment and that was a long-time inner struggle. Music won! I think what brought me to this decision, was knowing that I could never listen to music again if I didn´t do it in this life or at least tried.” Josin’s debut EP sees a dynamic blend of electronic jolts, enhanced by keyboards and haunting poetic vocals that draw on a variety of traditions, from classical to electronic. As a self-taught producer, Josin is always experimenting, incorporating the electronical world into her writing as well as composing string arrangements. There’s ultimately something quite arresting about Josin, and this debut EP marks an exciting start for a compelling new artist.
Her debut album In the Blank Space was released 2018.
